Beacon Hill U8 Radars
After many years of a thoroughly enjoyable playing career that started in junior football, peaked at semi-professional reserves, and progressed to the inevitable ‘Veterans’ level thereafter, it was time to hang up my boots and focus on the next best thing – coaching the beautiful game! As a resident in the village of Beacon Hill and with a son joining the club as a 5-year-old, I was very keen to get involved. In September 2020, I completed my FA Level 1 badge and put myself forward to help and shadow the Kickstart Coaches in the U7’s group. After a year of learning what I had let myself in for, I offered to oversee the three new U8 teams, with a particular focus on the Radars. Stepping up from training only to both training and matches has been a steep learning curve in the first year but one that I am relishing! I plan to continue my FA education in 2022 and complete the UEFA C Licence in order to further improve my coaching knowledge and continue to give something back to the game.
Having played football for most of my life, it was a natural progression to now support and encourage my son Rory during his early days in the sport.”
I fell into taking Rory and a few of his friends for some training sessions and enjoyed the coaching element, that was it, the start of my coaching journey. I received my FA level one in September and have not looked back. I particularly enjoy the benefits of the social development that football can bring to the players.
Training is on Wednesday Evenings during the Season
